Senior Session Guide: Tips For Posing
In this day and “selfie” age that we are in, I’m sure it may come as a small surprise that I would be posting a blog about posing. One thing I have found though is that taking a million selfies still doesn’t quite prepare you or make you any more comfortable in front of my camera. Many of my high school senior clients tense up and I wanted to write a few tips to help you relax and have an awesome time posing in front of the camera!
First : I always tell my high school senior client GIRLS that I know there is a secret super model in there somewhere. EVERY girl practices different facial expressions in the mirror at least once in their life. I will tell you to let that super model side out for a little while and really let loose with your posing. For my high school senior guys my advice obviously is a little bit different, I want you to be aware of your angles. Although I won’t be telling you to let your inner super model out what I will tell you is what facial expressions I want from you.
Second : PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. We are all very familiar with this saying, and for many of my senior clients you are all too familiar with this because you are in a sport or ROTC. Well the same applies with posing. Practice really is the best way to know exactly what you’re doing when you don’t have a mirror right in front of you. Practice holding your head, your body, your feet in different ways. When our session time comes I will be there to help perfect your posing, but practicing beforehand sure does go a long way. Not to mention makes you more comfortable, as you will know a little more about what to do.
Third : Magazines are your friend… Pick up the latest copy of your favorite magazine, whatever it may be and study it. Not only will you possibly find some cute wardrobe ideas, but you will notice how many models hold themselves. You can learn a lot. The same goes for guys too! Even if it’s a hunting magazine! Pick one up and study it!
Fourth : This is the most important one… REMEMBER TO RELAX! If you are very stiff and uncomfortable it is absolutely going to show! Remember that this is your SENIOR YEAR have fun with it! It’s just us out there don’t pay attention to anyone else.
Fifth : And finally have trust in me. You have booked with me knowing my style and passion for making my seniors be the BEST version of themselves possible. I may ask you to do certain things like YELL into the camera or hold your arms in a certain way. It may seem awkward at first but TRUST in what my vision is… I promise you will not be disappointed. ALSO feel free to try something new! Communicate with me on where you’re at.. I’m an excellent listener and I LOVE trying new stuff!
Having these tips will definitely help you with your posing… ONLY if you put them into practice 😉
CANT WAIT FOR OUR SESSION TOGETHER!
