The Difference Between a Picture and a Portrait
This week I have been in Portland Oregon, to see family. I have had the opportunity to try and see so many new things which I absolutely just LOVE! One of the many highlights was meeting my new nephew! He is now three months old and the squishiest cutest baby EVER!
So this entire trip I have been dying to grab my camera and take pictures, of everything! This state in general is just so beautiful. A little cold and rainy for me but seriously just beautiful! I have never seen so much green. The trees not only had green foliage, but the bark was covered in moss. Actually just about everything was covered in moss…. SWOON! All while we are driving I am just in awe from the landscape. The downside to all the green is the amount of rain that makes everything so green HA. As you can imagine it’s been a bit of a challenge to find the right time when it’s NOT raining or snowing to pull my equipment out.
HOWEVER on our drive back to our family’s house, my brother in law was kind enough to find this awesome spot for me to jump out and grab some shots! So there I was running my happy butt across a highway to the other side of the road because the trees were phenomenal. It wasn’t any more than maybe 10 minutes but that’s enough for me.
Now I want to jump back a bit to my new squishy nephew. I obviously love holding him, especially after he has a nice full belly and is super cuddly…. (Insert like 12 heart emoji’s’) But last night I was holding him while watching some TV with his mom and dad, and he was just snoozing away. I didn’t want to set him down, because 1) As mentioned I love holding him, then 2) I didn’t want to wake him. As I’m holding him my heart is just dying to photograph him, but given the predicament I was in my canon was not an option… SO I grabbed the next best thing….. My IPhone HAHA!
So I’m sitting there one arm full of baby and my other hand trying to maneuver the camera phone, trying to make sure not to lose grip and drop the phone. After I take a couple I realize that the images are actually pretty nice. I can see why the common statement is “I’ll just take a few pictures with my phone.” This is my statement or “two cents” if you will to that. The difference between a good picture and a portrait isn’t necessarily the camera you use, because as mentioned my IPhone takes pretty great pictures. It’s about the experience you have, the memories you make and are making.
Sure anyone can probably point and shoot and actually have a pretty neat picture come out. But if you are looking for a memory, a better experience, a more personal and intimate relationship with your pictures….. Well then…. That, that is where a professional photographer comes in. Would you rather have a Doctor that comes in takes a brief 5 minutes with you, looks you over briefly, doesn’t ask if you have any questions, writes you a prescription and sends you on your way? Or do you prefer a doctor that sits with you for thirty minutes talking with you to get every detail, does a thorough check of why you are there, and then calls the prescription in for you, and then takes it a step further to check on you a few days after? I’m sure you see where I’m going with this.
So moral of the story is there is a difference between a picture and a portrait.
Well as I bring this blog to a close enjoy some of the images I captured during my journey here. If you ever have the opportunity to travel to Oregon I highly recommend it!
