When to book your maternity session

Sep 20, 2015

Ok everyone as promised this blog will be about when the best time is to book and schedule your maternity session. A very popular question I receive. So first thing is first, you know me the planning queen, the best time to book your session…. I say there is no such thing as planning too far in advance. It’s kind-of like the mom that registers her child for school a year or so in advance hehe. Really though your maternity session is SO important. Think about it, even if you plan on having a very large family there is really no guarantee on future pregnancies (of course we hope you are blessed with as many children as you want!). So you want this maternity session to be planned and well thought out. AND the sooner you start planning the smoother everything will go, you are giving yourself the gift of time.

Now let’s talk about WHEN your session should be scheduled for. I suggest scheduling your session between 32-36 weeks. Now as women one of the biggest worries we have is feeling that we will look too big if we wait too long. I am here to not only reassure you that you will never be too big, even though you may feel that way. My job as your photographer is to make sure your images are the best, most beautiful images of yourself that you have ever seen. Posing goes into play so much and the last thing you need to worry with is looking too big.

Now that being said I have had women look too small during their session. I KNOW I KNOW your probably thinking HA I would kill to be “TOO SMALL” for any shoot. But in all seriousness it can be a challenge. The entire point of a maternity session is to share your beautiful baby bump and glowing self… and if your baby bump is less of a bump and more of a little baby pooch then you can see where that throws a wrinkle in the mix. Again why I say to wait at least until you are 32 weeks.

I also like to cut off the session scheduling at 36 weeks for a couple of reasons. 1) You are already getting pretty uncomfortable. If you wait any later it will make your session pretty miserable. You still want to be able to move somewhat freely. 2) The longer you wait and closer to your due date you get you may deal with swelling. 3) I would really prefer you not going into labor on our session… even though you may hope that happens HA HA!
So in summing up remember there is NO SUCH THING as booking your session TOO EARLY! The earlier the better in fact!

Take my few tips on when you think the best time to schedule your session will be and everything will go GREAT!
